Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raje Malapitan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damon Wade ! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Lou da Vinci and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wade fails to land the takedown. Malapitan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Malapitan stalling. Wade won't allow Malapitan to pass to mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Malapitan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wade has managed to free his arm - good work. Malapitan is working for a submission of some sort.
Malapitan is looking for a kimura but Wade is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Malapitan to get the leverage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Malapitan is working for a kimura but Wade is defending it quite comfortably.
Malapitan is controlling the pace.
Malapitan wants to take a breather but Wade is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Malapitan moves nicely into side control. Wade parries the strikes from Malapitan easily there. Malapitan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Wade to escape.
Malapitan tries for a kimura but Wade is defending well. Wade is not content to let Malapitan control the position. Malapitan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Wade has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Malapitan but great work by Wade . The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Malapitan manages to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Malapitan works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wade won't allow Malapitan to sweep him here. Wade postures up in Malapitan's guard and throws a big left but Malapitan blocks it. Malapitan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Wade throws a sloppy strike and Malapitan has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Wade is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Malapitan!
