The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Villar gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Andersson tries to free his leg and advance position but Villar is retaining full guard. Andersson sitting in guard here, content to control. Villar keeping moving, preventing Andersson from controlling successfully.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Andersson throws a hook but Villar blocks it. Villar shoots in but Andersson avoids the takedown attempt easily. Erick Villar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Villar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Andersson to the mat! Andersson manages to get full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Villar is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Villar wants to pass the guard but Andersson is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Villar working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Andersson's head. Andersson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Villar defends it easily. Andersson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Villar. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Villar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Villar wants to pass the guard but Andersson is keeping the position. Villar postures up in Andersson's guard and throws a big left but Andersson blocks it. Andersson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Villar throws a strike but Andersson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Villar trying to control the position here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Erick Villar wasn't active enough on the ground. Villar fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Villar misses the jab. Villar misses with a combination
and Andersson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. This has been an exciting period of action! Andersson lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Villar throws and elbow that misses. Andersson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Villar's guard. Nice move by Andersson! Villar is trying to control the position but Andersson postures up. Andersson wants to control from the top but Villar keeps moving. Andersson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Oli Andersson just wasn't active enough. Villar shoots in looking for a takedown. Andersson tries to sprawl out of it but Villar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Andersson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Nice sprawl there from Villar as Andersson shoots in. Villar takes one to the side of the head.
Villar misses with a double jab
and Andersson counters with a head kick. That will keep Villar thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Villar closes the distance and clinches up with Andersson, looking for a takedown. Villar pushes Andersson against the cage but Andersson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Villar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Andersson tries to improve position but can't. Villar throws an elbow but Andersson slips to the side and avoids it well. Villar lands a few punches from side control. Andersson tries to improve position but can't. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Erick Villar will probably get the nod. That's time! Andersson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Villar drives through with a takedown into guard. Villar stopping the sweep attempt from Andersson. Villar with a flurry of punches that miss. Villar thows a big elbow that misses. Andersson controls Villar momentarily but Villar frees himself. Villar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Villar makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Villar postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Villar stands up over Andersson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Andersson is looking for a triangle but Villar pushes his legs off easily.
Villar lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Villar postures up in Andersson's guard and throws a big left but Andersson blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Villar scoring with punches to the head and body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Villar works over Andersson with some ground and pound from guard. Andersson keeping full guard, as Villar tries to pass. Villar landing with the ground and pound. Villar passes easily into side control. Nice work. Villar lands a decent elbow from side control. Villar landing a few strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Villar scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Andersson to see if he's OK. Villar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Andersson, who protects the arm well. Villar tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Villar has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Villar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Andersson, who protects the arm well. Villar working away. Villar misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Andersson gets back to half guard. Villar is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Villar working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Villar thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Villar in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Andersson tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Villar!
