Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alonso Escovedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Escovedo comes to the cage accompanied by call to prayer. Josh James has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alonso Escovedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josh James!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James dives in and grabs Escovedo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Escovedo pushes down on James's head and hops out.

and James decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Escovedo's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

James wants to control from the top but Escovedo keeps moving.

Escovedo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of James is proving hard to escape from.
Escovedo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

James manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Escovedo manages to get himself to full guard.

James throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Escovedo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
James throws and elbow that misses. Escovedo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in James's guard. Nice move by Escovedo!

Escovedo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on James, up you get!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts James, as that shot connected.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Escovedo enables James to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Escovedo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
James works a leg free and moves into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

James thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Escovedo's head.

James misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

James swings around for an armbar but Escovedo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into James's guard.

Escovedo works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Escovedo uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Escovedo looks to score with a jab to the body but James is just out of range.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Escovedo has escaped the position, nice work there.

James is looking for a sweep.
Escovedo wants to stand but James has his arm trapped.
James throws a few strikes from the bottom but Escovedo takes advantage and mounts!

Escovedo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from James.
Escovedo tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Escovedo tries to land a front kick but James steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Escovedo throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
James shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
James thows a body shot but no joy.
Escovedo throws a nice inside leg kick.

Escovedo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
James tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Escovedo pushes James off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Josh James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Escovedo fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and James has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
James tries to land a leg kick but Escovedo saw it coming and moves away.

James shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Escovedo defends it nicely.
James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
James takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Escovedo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on James. That did some damage!

James tries to clinch but Escovedo is having none of it.
Alonso Escovedo is winning the standup battle so far.
James takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Escovedo gets to mount! James was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Alonso Escovedo showed his dominance in that final round.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
