Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Dinero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, CJ Miller! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dinero shoots in for a double leg but Miller sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Miller connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Dinero momentarily.
Miller ducks under a wild hook from Dinero. Dinero fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Miller manages to avoid it. Dinero feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Miller wants to stand and escape but Dinero is having none of it. Dinero stands up from Miller's guard - Dinero perhaps looking for a knockout. Dinero misses with a few strikes there.
Dinero tries to score a power double leg takedown but Miller sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dinero somewhat. Miller dodges the punch combination from Dinero.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Dinero swinging wildly here.
CJ Miller is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Dinero throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Miller's waist but Miller gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dinero off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Dinero. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dinero will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Miller leaves Dinero with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Miller ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Miller scores with a sloppy right hand. Dinero should have avoided that one. Miller swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dinero drives through with a takedown into Miller's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miller can do anything to dispel that myth. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dinero thows a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dinero sitting in guard here, content to control. Dinero throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miller works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Ken Dinero just wasn't active enough. Miller jabs Dinero right on the nose. Dinero blinks but takes it well. Dinero misses with a double jab
and Miller counters with a stiff right hand. Miller jabs at Dinero's body. Dinero swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Miller connects with the punch. A combination from Miller does no damage. Dinero on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller scores with a jab. Dinero acknowledges it with a nod of the head. That kick from Miller tenderised Dinero's leg. Dinero is trying to keep his angry face on. Dinero tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Ken Dinero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Miller lands a right hook to the body.
Dinero is breathing heavily. Miller scores with a punch to the head. Dinero throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Miller counters with a body kick that stops Dinero in his tracks momentarily. Dinero misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Miller lands a big head kick that sends Dinero to the canvas! Miller follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). CJ Miller!
