PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xerxes LaVey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Perttu Ruusberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). LaVey kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Battle Hymn of the Apocalypse. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Xerxes LaVey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Perttu Ruusberg! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! LaVey gets the takedown into side control. Ruusberg wants to get back to his feet. LaVey wants to control but Ruusberg is keeping him busy. Ruusberg takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
LaVey is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Ruusberg's shoulder. That is not cool. LaVey is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ruusberg has escaped the position, nice work there. Ruusberg tries to buck LaVey off but LaVey is having none of it. Ruusberg misses with an elbow from the bottom. Ruusberg struggling a bit here. LaVey is looking to take a break and control but Ruusberg is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Ruusberg darts in and clinches LaVey up against the cage. Ruusberg has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics LaVey uses from the top position. LaVey stays in close to Ruusberg's body and controls the position. Ruusberg keeping moving, preventing LaVey from controlling successfully. Ruusberg working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. LaVey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. LaVey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Ruusberg working a defensive guard here.
Ruusberg looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. LaVey wants to pass the guard but Ruusberg is keeping the position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Ruusberg misses with a takedown and LaVey counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ruusberg! Ruusberg is trying to control the position here but LaVey swings around for an armbar and he's got it! This one is all over, courtesy of a slick submission by LaVey!
