Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joerg Roessler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Action Jackson! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roessler shoots in looking for a takedown. Jackson tries to sprawl out of it but Roessler keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jackson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Jackson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Roessler, who protects the arm well. Jackson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Roessler gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Roessler is pressing down on Jackson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Roessler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Roessler had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jackson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Roessler Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jackson's back instead. Roessler is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Jackson knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Jackson for a finish. Roessler is trying to stick to Jackson's back but Jackson is turning into Roessler. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Roessler's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Jackson.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson has gone for a leg lock! Roessler slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jackson's guard. Jackson looks gassed! Roessler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Roessler is working hard here to advance position. Roessler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Jackson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Roessler tries to free his leg and advance position but Jackson is retaining full guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Roessler shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Jackson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson wants to pass the guard but Roessler is defending well. The fighters are battling for position here. Roessler manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Jackson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Jackson passes Roessler's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Roessler is pressing down on Jackson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Jackson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Roessler is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jackson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jackson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Roessler has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Jackson doesn't defend quickly enough and Roessler has managed to lock this one up! Can Jackson escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Roessler on a fantastic submission victory.
