The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Jacobs does no damage. Jacobs shoots in but no luck this time. Williams with a poor takedown and Jacobs counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Jacobs jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Jacobs fails with a takedown attempt. Jacobs fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Williams slips a jab and a cross from Jacobs.
Williams keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Williams misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ryan Jacobs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jacobs throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Williams stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacobs with a lazy takedown attempt and Williams counters with a nice double leg into half guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Jacobs. That's going to take a lot out of him. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Williams wants to work for an arm triangle but Jacobs is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Jacobs is trying to get back to full guard. Williams keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Jacobs is staying active underneath Williams, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Williams wants to pass to mount but Jacobs is defending the position. Williams wants to stand up but Jacobs is controlling the position.
Jacobs wants to control but Williams is keeping busy and won't allow it. Jacobs tries to get to full guard but Williams has control of the leg. Williams decides to stand up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Jacobs throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Williams uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jacobs.
Williams misses with a takedown and Jacobs counters with a right hand to the body. Jacobs swings for the body but Williams moves out of range.
Jacobs goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Jacobs ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Williams moves away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Williams uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jacobs.
Jacobs bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Williams closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Jacobs looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Jacobs looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Williams ducks under a wild hook from Jacobs. Jacobs throws a combination that misses and Williams counters with a left and a right that stings Jacobs. Jacobs swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Williams misses with a two punch combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jacobs throws a sloppy body shot
and Williams counters with a single leg into guard. Jacobs didn't expect that. Williams throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jacobs works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Williams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jacobs is keeping the position for now. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Jacobs is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Jacobs looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jacobs is breathing heavily. Jacobs can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Williams controls the pace. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Jacobs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but Jacobs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Williams bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jacobs's head backwards. Jacobs throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Williams sees it coming and avoids it easily. A momentary lapse in concentration from Jacobs enables Williams to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jacobs manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Jacobs wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacobs is working hard here to advance position. Jacobs working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Williams. Jacobs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Williams wants to control from the top but Jacobs keeps moving. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Williams looking to sit in guard and control but Jacobs gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Jacobs postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Williams throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rex Williams has got the better of the ground game so far. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Williams is on top in guard.
Jacobs looking for a guillotine here but Williams defends easily.
Jacobs manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Williams manages to get himself to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Williams keeping moving, preventing Jacobs from controlling successfully. Jacobs is sitting in close to Williams's body. Williams has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Jacobs is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Jacobs is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Williams.
