Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yuki Nakai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nate Cruz! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruz ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Nakai drives through with a takedown into guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Nakai looking to pass the guard. Nakai postures up.
Cruz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nakai gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Nakai wants to control from the top but Cruz keeps moving. Nakai not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Nakai missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Cruz working for a triangle but Nakai defends it easily.

Nakai throws an elbow that misses. Cruz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nakai's guard. Nice move by Cruz! Cruz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Cruz passes easily into side control. Nice work. Nakai is trying to improve his position. Nakai sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Nakai is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Cruz tries to pass to full mount but Nakai defends it.

Nakai keeping moving, preventing Cruz from controlling successfully. Nakai is controlling Cruz's posture. Nakai is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cruz defends well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Nakai being controlled here, momentarily. Nakai trying to control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Cruz misses with a takedown and Nakai counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Nakai feints and as Cruz raises his hands in defense, Nakai changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Cruz has an active guard here but Nakai has managed to pass into half guard.
Cruz is staying active underneath Nakai, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Cruz wants to control but Nakai is keeping busy and won't allow it. Cruz is refusing to be controlled, as Nakai sits in half guard. Cruz trying to control but Nakai postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz actively working from the bottom here. Cruz blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nakai. Cruz throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Nakai is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cruz defends it well. Nakai throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Cruz to regain full guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Cruz has his foot on Nakai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nakai works his way back into a safe position though. Cruz keeping moving, preventing Nakai from controlling successfully. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yuki Nakai dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Nakai tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Cruz shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Nakai is trying to control but can't.
Cruz wants to advance to full mount but Nakai doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Nakai had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cruz defends it easily. Nakai keeping full guard, as Cruz tries to pass. Cruz scoring with punches to the head and body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Cruz passes Nakai's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Nakai is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cruz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cruz's back! Nakai working for the choke. Nakai throwing sloppy strikes. Cruz turns into Nakai and is now in his guard.
Cruz content to stall in guard here. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cruz's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Cruz is looking to work some ground and pound but Nakai has wrist control. Cruz lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Cruz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nakai's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz wants to free his trapped foot but Nakai is holding on for dear life with his legs. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nakai is looking for a sweep. Cruz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Cruz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Nakai is just riding it out for now. Cruz eventually gives up the hold. Cruz is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Nakai trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Cruz manages to pass to mount!
Cruz lands a nice shot to the head. Nakai tries to reverse the position but Cruz maintains control. Nakai is working hard here to advance position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz trying to control but he's not successful this time. Nakai is trying to escape the mount.
Nakai in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Cruz landing strikes from the mount. Nakai is squirming around, avoiding Cruz's attempts to control the action. Cruz pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Nakai trying desperately to get to his feet.
Cruz working Nakai over with strikes here. Nakai tries to lock up and control but Cruz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Nakai takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cruz scores with a couple of good head shots there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nakai keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Nakai taking shots to the head. Cruz is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Nakai can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Nakai takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Cruz lands a big shot there that rocks Nakai but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Cruz looking to finish Nakai with some ground and pound. This is bad for Nakai! Cruz controlling the pace for now. Nakai is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Cruz putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Cruz lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Cruz cracks Nakai with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Nakai is rocked! Cruz punishing his opponent with strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nate Cruz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Cruz fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Nakai fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nakai shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cruz but Cruz pushes him off and we're back to square one. Nakai works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Nakai tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Cruz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Cruz clinches up with Nakai and pushes him back against the cage. Cruz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nakai smiles and moves away.
Nakai wants to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. A head kick misses from Nakai. Nakai doesn't succeed with the takedown so Cruz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Cruz is pushing down on Nakai's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nakai is fighting to maintain full guard but Cruz has managed to sneak the leg through. Cruz seems to be working for a kimura but Nakai defends the submission attempt. Cruz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nakai avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cruz. Cruz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nakai with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Cruz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nakai looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Cruz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nakai keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cruz working over Nakai with some ground and pound. Nakai looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Nakai is not content to let Cruz control the position. Cruz seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Cruz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Nakai trying to control but Cruz postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Nakai looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Cruz working the head and body with strikes. Nakai blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cruz. Cruz with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Cruz works his way into side control. Nakai is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cruz connects with a decent elbow. Cruz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Cruz is chipping away with strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nakai wants to control but Cruz postures up. Nakai regains half guard. Cruz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nakai's head. Cruz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Nakai defending well though. Cruz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cruz passes to full mount! Nakai is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cruz trying to control but he's not successful this time. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cruz looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Cruz looking to control but Nakai is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that's the end of the fight! Nate Cruz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Cruz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
