Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Domingo Chavez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimbo Goggins! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chavez shoots in for a takedown but Goggins shows good takedown defense. Goggins shoots in for a double leg but Chavez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Chavez throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
It looks like Jimbo Goggins has been cut. Chavez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Goggins closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Goggins lands in his opponent's guard. Goggins missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Goggins controls from within his opponent's guard. Goggins wants to control from the top but Chavez keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goggins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chavez swivels though and keeps the full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Jimbo Goggins hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Chavez chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Chavez doesn't manage to clinch there - Goggins circles away.
Chavez lands a head kick that stumbles Goggins and the fighters go to the mat.
Goggins is rocked! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Goggins can do anything to dispel that myth. Chavez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Goggins is still on wobbly legs! Can Chavez finish him? Goggins moves away from the strike by Chavez. Chavez just misses with a punch to the body.
Chavez throws a series of punches but Goggins moves out of range. Goggins looks gassed! Look low, kick high! Chavez uses the oldest trick in the book to send Goggins tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Chavez is absolutely delighted - when Goggins wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Domingo Chavez!
