Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Taj Mahal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edmond Honda! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick misses from Mahal. Honda takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Honda throws a jab when Mahal was well out of range. Mahal throws a head kick but Honda moves out of range.
Honda steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mahal. Mahal misses with a hook. Mahal takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Mahal closes the distance and clinches. Mahal scores with an uppercut up the middle. Mahal manages to break the clinch.
Mahal will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Mahal tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Honda paws at him with a jab and circles away. Honda takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Honda displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mahal. Taj Mahal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mahal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mahal lands a high kick to the side of Honda's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Mahal dives into guard, looking to finish.

It looks like Edmond Honda has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Mahal is stalling in the full guard. Honda is still in real trouble! Can Mahal finish him? Mahal wants to control from the top but Honda keeps moving. Mahal drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Honda dives on top into guard. Mahal looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Honda seems to have recovered his senses. Honda wants to stand but Mahal is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mahal has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Honda is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mahal. Mahal tries to buck Honda off but Honda is having none of it. Mahal is working hard here to advance position. Honda wants to stand but Mahal is controlling his arm. Mahal tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mahal is not content to let Honda control the position. Mahal isn't going anywhere. Mahal can't do much from the bottom here. Mahal tries to improve position but can't.

Honda punishes Mahal's body with a nice straight punch. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mahal throws a head kick but Honda moves out of range.
Edmond Honda is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mahal thows a left - swing and a miss! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mahal slips under a jab. A lazy left from Honda finds it's target. Mahal has his takedown stuffed and Honda counters with a lovely straight right hand! Mahal changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Honda tries to avoid it but Mahal manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Honda to the ground. Honda escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mahal tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Mahal closes the distance and clinches. Mahal lands a nice knee to the body. Honda is trying to break the clinch but Mahal has him pressed against the cage. Mahal tries to pull guard but Honda forces him back to his feet, against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taj Mahal. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mahal keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Honda's efforts to push away. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mahal tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Honda just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mahal ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mahal no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Mahal not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Honda manages to capitalize on a mistake by Mahal to take his back! Mahal is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Honda.
Mahal tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Taj Mahal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mahal wants to hold on but Honda pushes him away. Mahal is working to get back to half guard.

Honda sitting and controlling from the half guard. Mahal is controlling Honda's position as best he can from this difficult position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mahal trying to hold on to Honda's head to control him but Honda postures up.

Honda manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Mahal misses with a takedown attempt - Honda sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Mahal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Honda lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Mahal punishes Honda's body with a nice straight punch. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Mahal here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Mahal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mahal lands with a kick to the temple. Honda shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Mahal pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Honda throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mahal on the side of the head. Honda fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Mahal on the side of the head. Honda blocks a head kick by Mahal.
A head kick misses from Mahal. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mahal walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Taj Mahal is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Mahal slips under a jab from Honda. Mahal tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Taj Mahal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mahal fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taj Mahal. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mahal uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Honda. Edmond Honda has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. A lazy body kick from Mahal and Honda counters with a right hand to the body. Honda has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. A punch lands to the side of Mahal 's head but he takes it in his stride. Mahal throws a head kick that misses. Honda connects with a high kick. Mahal is looking to clinch. Honda misses with a low kick.

Honda throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mahal. Mahal shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Honda pinned against the cage. Honda gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Mahal shoots in looking for a takedown. Honda tries to sprawl out of it but Mahal keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Honda manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. This has been an exciting period of action! Mahal keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Honda. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mahal lands a nice leg kick that just misses Honda's sensitive parts.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Taj Mahal. Well Mahal has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
