The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Sobral with that takedown attempt. Sobral gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Benton wants to pass the guard but Sobral is keeping the position. Benton is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Benton won't allow Sobral to sweep him here. Sobral is working hard here to advance position. Sobral knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Benton on the ground. Benton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Benton advances position into side control! Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Sobral can't do much from the bottom here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Sobral shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Benton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benton is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sobral gets back to full guard.
Benton looking to pass the guard. Sobral tries to land a sweep but no joy. Benton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sobral swivels though and keeps the full guard. Sobral can't keep his opponent in guard - Benton advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Sobral is looking to control Benton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sobral avoid being mounted? Sobral is trying to get back to full guard. Benton works his way into full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Benton moves to the back. Sobral tries to escape the position.
Sobral is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Benton gets his way!
