Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Drew Branch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kendall Alves! The judges for this bout are , and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves gets the takedown into side control. Alves wants to control but Branch is keeping him busy. Branch knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground. Alves is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Branch has escaped the position, nice work there. Branch wants to get back to his feet. Branch trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Alves decides to stand up, so the ref orders Branch to his feet. Drew Branch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alves gets a takedown into half guard. Branch pushes Alves off and gets back to his feet. Branch misses with a wild combination.
Alves fails with a takedown attempt. Branch dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Alves. That did some damage!
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Branch swivels and escapes. Branch misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Branch pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Branch stuffs the takedown. Drew Branch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kendall Alves. Alves looks gassed! Branch closes the distance and lands a one-two. Branch throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Alves shoots in for a takedown but Branch shows good takedown defense. Branch fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Alves drives through with a takedown into guard. Alves prevents Branch from getting back to his feet. Alves gets to his feet - Branch follows without any prompting. Alves feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Branch uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Branch throws a right hand that Alves ducks under and follows up with a left that Alves also avoids with ease. Alves darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Alves wants to stand but Branch has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alves is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Branch is looking to escape. Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Branch keeps working. Alves is working for a submission of some sort.
Branch kicks off Alves and gets to his feet. Branch misses with a double jab.
Alves tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Branch swivels and escapes. Branch pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Branch pushes Alves up against the cage in a clinch. Branch breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Alves scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Branch. Alves throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Branch's waist but Branch gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alves off to one side. Alves is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Alves bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Branch tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Alves takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Alves catches Branch with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Alves closes the distance and clinches. Branch escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alves misses with a takedown attempt - Branch sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Nice sprawl there from Branch as Alves shoots in. Branch moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Nice takedown defense from Branch. No joy for Alves on that attempt. and Alves counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Alves looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Branch stuffs the takedown attempt from Alves. Alves gets slowly back to his feet. Alves changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Branch looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Alves trying to control the position but Branch is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Branch is pushing Alves's head away, looking to escape. Alves manages to hold on to the position though. Alves decides to stand back up. Alves steps back and let's Branch get back to his feet. Branch throws a left and a right that both miss
so Alves counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Alves drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alves jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Branch manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Branch throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Alves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Alves tries to free his leg and advance position but Branch is retaining full guard. Branch pushes Alves off and scrambles back to his feet.
Alves shoots in and drives through. Branch sprawls well. Branch stuffs the takedown. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Nice sprawl there from Branch as Alves shoots in. Alves shoots in but no luck this time. Alves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alves has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Branch! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kendall Alves dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Alves passes easily into side control. Nice work. Alves is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Branch knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Branch is pushing Alves's head away, looking to escape. Alves manages to hold on to the position though. Alves is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Branch looks calm but he's in trouble here. Alves gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Branch is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Alves lets go of the hold and Branch can pop his arm back in it's socket.
