PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Simon Hornsyld (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shaw has chosen Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffany's as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hornsyld wants to clinch.

Hornsyld looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shaw is fending him off so far but Hornsyld persists. Nope, Shaw circles away and we're back to standing.

Shaw throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shaw is looking to advance position but Hornsyld won't allow it.

Shaw is figuring out what he wants to do next.
It looks like Shaw might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Hornsyld closes the distance and pushes Shaw back into the cage.
Shaw has Hornsyld pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hornsyld manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Hornsyld lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Shaw backwards.

Hornsyld wants the takedown. Shaw is fighting it off but Hornsyld persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Shaw's guard against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shaw is on top in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shaw not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hornsyld knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shaw on the ground.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shaw.
Shaw lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Shaw shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hornsyld eats them both and turns towards Shaw to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Shaw gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hornsyld.

Shaw lunges at Hornsyld with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hornsyld's hand.
Shaw jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Hornsyld closes the distance and clinches up with Shaw, looking for a takedown. Hornsyld pushes Shaw against the cage but Shaw circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Shaw shoots in looking for a takedown but Hornsyld manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shaw's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Hornsyld tries to clinch up but Shaw circles away and keeps his distance.
Shaw dives in and grabs Hornsyld's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hornsyld pushes down on Shaw's head and hops out.

Hornsyld manages to break the clinch.
Hornsyld tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Shaw manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Nice takedown defense from Hornsyld. No joy for Shaw on that attempt.

Hornsyld feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Shaw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hornsyld drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shaw looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shaw looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shaw!
Hornsyld takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Hornsyld is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Shaw off and has taken his back!
Hornsyld is throwing strikes by Shaw counters by rolling into a better position. After a scramble, Shaw regains half guard.

Hornsyld throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Shaw slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Hornsyld drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Shaw dives on top into guard.

Shaw would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shaw stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hornsyld swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jeff Shaw was stalling too much, according to the referee.
No joy there for Shaw, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Shaw changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hornsyld tries to avoid it but Shaw manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hornsyld to the ground. Hornsyld escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hornsyld connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Jeff Shaw is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Shaw slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Shaw, as that shot connected.

I've got Shaw winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
