Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mick Spanner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Manuel Johnson! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown but Spanner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Johnson fails with a takedown attempt. Johnson shoots for a double leg takedown but Spanner sprawls well. He's pushed Johnson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Mick Spanner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manuel Johnson. Johnson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Spanner to the ground. Johnson is now in Spanner's guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Spanner pushes Johnson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Johnson decides to pull guard. Spanner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Johnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Spanner has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Johnson is proving hard to escape from. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Spanner content to stall in guard here. Spanner is looking to work some ground and pound but Johnson has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spanner has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Johnson is proving hard to escape from. Spanner postures up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Johnson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Spanner's guard. Spanner is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Johnson is controlling him. Johnson trying to control but Spanner is working from the bottom. Johnson stands and throws Spanner's legs to the side, diving into side control. Spanner bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Spanner looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Johnson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Spanner! Johnson looking to isolate an arm here. Spanner doesn't see it coming and as Johnson extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Johnson!
