Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Herman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Collin Barnett! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Chad Campbell and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Herman is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Barnett's half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Herman trying to mount his opponent but Barnett defends it. Still in half guard, Herman seems content to control. Barnett pushes Herman off looking to stand but Herman dives back in and keeps control.
Herman is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We're going to have a standup here because Dave Herman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Herman is looking to clinch. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Barnett is defended easily by Herman.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barnett gets tackled into the cage by Herman. Herman maintains the clinch. Herman lands with a right to the head. Barnett blocks the elbow strike.
Herman slows down the pace here.
Herman manages to break the clinch.
Barnett throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Herman was covering up waiting for the punch and Barnett finishes the takedown easily into guard. Herman on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Herman tries to get out of the position. Barnett with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barnett prevents Herman from getting back to his feet. Herman uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Barnett shoots and misses and Herman counters with a nice double leg into guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Herman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Dave Herman just wasn't active enough. Barnett keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

It looks like Collin Barnett has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Herman looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Herman content to stall in guard here. Dave Herman has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Herman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Barnett napping and manages to drive through into side control! Barnett tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. A bit of a pause in the action here. Herman controlling the positon.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Herman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
We're going to have a standup here because Dave Herman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Herman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barnett avoids it really well and circles away. Barnett keeps the fight on the outside.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herman closes the distance and clinches up with Barnett, looking for a takedown. Herman pushes Barnett against the cage but Barnett circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Herman doesn't manage to clinch there - Barnett circles away.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Barnett enables Herman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Barnett manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Barnett keeping moving, preventing Herman from controlling successfully.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Dave Herman wasn't doing enough on the ground. Herman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Herman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Barnett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Herman swivels and escapes. Dave Herman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Herman scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Herman wants to pass to mount but Barnett is defending the position.
