PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Kalos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Stephens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kalos might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Cracks (Flux Pavillion). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Kalos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeremy Stephens! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Eddie Farnsworth and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kalos throws the kick towards the body but Stephens avoids it. Kalos misses with a wild combination.
Stephens moves into the clinch. Stephens jumps guard and drags Kalos to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Kalos pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stephens is keeping the position for now. Stephens wriggles free and stands up. Stephens displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kalos. Stephens moves into the clinch successfully.
Stephens jumps guard and drags Kalos to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Stephens is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Kalos wants to pass the guard but Stephens is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stephens preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Stephens wants to get back to his feet but Kalos is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Kalos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Kalos advances to half guard. Kalos seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stephens does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Kalos is looking to stall here but Stephens recovers full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kalos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Kalos throwing strikes but missing. Kalos tries to free his leg and advance position but Stephens is retaining full guard. Kalos sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stephens's guard. Kalos tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stephens knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Stephens is not content to let Kalos control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kalos sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Stephens defending well though. Stephens keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Kalos seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stephens does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Michael Kalos. Stephens is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kalos.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stephens shoots in and bounces Kalos off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Kalos is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stephens trying to control the position from guard on top but Kalos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kalos is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Stephens is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Stephens throwing strikes from guard but Kalos blocks nicely. Stephens slips nicely into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Kalos is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Stephens's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Stephens's back! Kalos is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Stephens has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Michael Kalos will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Kalos throws a head kick that misses. Horrible takedown by Kalos or perhaps it was just good defense by Stephens which made him look bad. Kalos throws a low kick but it's checked well by Stephens. Stephens fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kalos sprawls well initially but Stephens persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Stephens sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kalos defending well though. Stephens scoring with strikes to the body and head. Stephens is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Kalos is trying to get back to full guard. Stephens looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Kalos manages to get to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalos has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Stephens should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Kalos has tightened it up now! Stephens should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
