Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, AJ Valendretti! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steven Knight! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valendretti fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Knight shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Knight was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Valendretti is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Valendretti is bucking up trying to escape but Knight cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Valendretti can't escape the position.
Valendretti throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Knight looking for a guillotine from mount but Valendretti is having none of it. Knight looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Knight is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Valendretti can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Valendretti is trying to stand up. Knight is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Valendretti has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Valendretti is wriggling around trying to escape.
Valendretti is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Knight locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Valendretti is forced to tap!
