PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Liam Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Hargh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Liam Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Hargh !
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez scores a takedown into full mount!
Hargh is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hargh taking shots to the head.
Hargh is working to get back to half guard.
Sanchez wants to get back to his feet but Hargh is holding on tight.
Sanchez looking to control but Hargh is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Hargh tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hargh is in all sorts of trouble here.
Sanchez landing strikes from the mount and Hargh is in trouble!

Hargh throwing hammer fists to the chest of Sanchez. What's that going to do exactly?
Sanchez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sanchez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sanchez trying to control but Hargh is having none of it.
Sanchez is really struggling to control Hargh but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Sanchez looking to control and managing it successfully.
Hargh really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hargh 's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Sanchez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hargh on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sanchez controlling from mount.
Hargh is desperately trying to improve his position but Sanchez has a good base and remains in mount.
Sanchez trying to control but Hargh is having none of it.
Sanchez lands a big shot there that rocks Hargh but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Sanchez lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hargh hang on?
Hargh takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Sanchez is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Sanchez is working for a guillotine from mount but Hargh frees his head quite easily.

Hargh is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Hargh wants to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away.
Hargh slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hargh tries to get to full guard but Sanchez has control of the leg.

Hargh looks gassed!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hargh wants to get back to full guard.
Sanchez stalling.

Hargh looking for submissions off his back.
Sanchez scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Sanchez not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sanchez looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sanchez closes the distance and clinches up with Hargh , looking for a takedown. Sanchez pushes Hargh against the cage but Hargh circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hargh doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Sanchez counters with a solid body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Liam Sanchez dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Sanchez lands with a nice combination. Hargh backs away looking to recover.

Sanchez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sanchez stops a takedown attempt from Hargh .
Hargh is trying to break the clinch but Sanchez has him pressed against the cage.
Hargh fails to pull guard.

Hargh has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sanchez uses from the top position.
Hargh is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hargh working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sanchez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sanchez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hargh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanchez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sanchez won't allow Hargh to sweep him here.

Hargh has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Sanchez off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Sanchez avoids a punch combination nicely.

Hargh darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hargh is thwarting Sanchez's attempts to control the position.

Sanchez kicks Hargh off and gets back to his feet.
Sanchez fails to land the takedown.
Hargh has a takedown stuffed.
Liam Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Hargh .
Hargh is breathing heavily.
Hargh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sanchez as he jumps to the side.

Sanchez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hargh to the mat! Hargh manages to get full guard.

Sanchez wanted to stand there but Hargh had control of the position.
Hargh wants to get back to his feet but Sanchez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Hargh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sanchez has gone for a leg lock! Hargh slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sanchez's guard.

Hargh is looking for a kimura here.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hargh connects with a nice short shot to Sanchez's temple.

Hargh is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sanchez defends it well.
Hargh uses his free foot to push down on Sanchez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sanchez.

Hargh is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sanchez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Hargh tries to take Sanchez's back but instead Sanchez uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Hargh wants to free his trapped foot but Sanchez is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez is trying to maintain the position but Hargh is very close to passing his half guard.
Sanchez gets full guard.

Sanchez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hargh wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hargh tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Sanchez throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ken Hargh will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Sanchez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Hargh tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Liam Sanchez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hargh shoots in and bounces Sanchez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Sanchez is pulling down on Hargh 's head to control his posture.
Hargh tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanchez is retaining full guard.
Sanchez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Hargh from controlling successfully.
Sanchez has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Hargh stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Hargh doesn't manage to clinch there - Sanchez circles away.

Hargh drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Hargh thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Hargh wants to control but Sanchez is keeping him busy.

Hargh tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hargh has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hargh sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sanchez is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Sanchez pushes Hargh away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hargh gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Hargh decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sanchez to his feet.

Hargh shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hargh showed some decent athleticism there.

Hargh is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Sanchez regains full guard. Nicely done.
Sanchez controls Hargh momentarily but Hargh frees himself.
Hargh passes into half guard.

Hargh is looking for a kimura but Sanchez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hargh to get the leverage.
Hargh tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Sanchez tries to get to full guard but Hargh has control of the leg.
Hargh trying to control the action but Sanchez is working from the bottom.
Hargh is looking to advance position but Sanchez won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ken Hargh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hargh has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
