Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Fitz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Avila!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fitz looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Avila shoots in for a takedown but Fitz shows good takedown defense.
Fitz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Avila.

Avila gets tackled into the cage by Fitz. Fitz maintains the clinch.

Fitz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Avila is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Fitz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fitz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Fitz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Avila on the ground.

Avila stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fitz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fitz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Fitz throws a sloppy strike and Avila uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Avila has ended up in Fitz's guard.
Avila looking to sit in guard and control but Fitz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Fitz gets to his feet. Avila looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fitz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Avila as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Fitz misses with a head kick.

Fitz rushes Avila and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Fitz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Avila doesn't manage to clinch there - Fitz circles away.

Avila jumps guard but Fitz stands there with Avila around his waist. Avila gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Fitz manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Avila takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Avila stands and throws Fitz's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Avila wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fitz keeps working.

Fitz keeping control of the position.

Fitz pushes Avila off and gets back to his feet.
Fitz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Avila is fending him off so far but Fitz persists. Nope, Avila circles away and we're back to standing.
Fitz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Avila looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
John Fitz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Avila.
Avila slaps away a takedown attempt from Fitz, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Avila tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fitz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fitz shoots in looking for a takedown but Avila manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fitz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
No luck for Avila with that takedown attempt.

The fight stays on the outside here - Avila looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Avila stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Avila wants it to stay on the feet.

Fitz jumps guard and drags Avila to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Avila tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Fitz wants to control but Avila is keeping busy and won't allow it.

John Fitz showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fitz has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
