Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dennis Oppelaar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Pepe! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oppelaar shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pepe as he jumps to the side. Pepe shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Oppelaar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Oppelaar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Oppelaar throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Pepe is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Pepe trying to control the position from guard on top but Oppelaar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pepe is looking to work some ground and pound but Oppelaar has wrist control. Oppelaar looking to sweep here. No luck so far. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pepe is looking to work some ground and pound but Oppelaar has wrist control. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Pepe trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Oppelaar preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Pepe passes Oppelaar's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oppelaar makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Oppelaar. Oppelaar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pepe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pepe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Oppelaar throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Pepe wanted to stand there but Oppelaar had control of the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pepe postures up and lands a big shot to Oppelaar's brow. Pepe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Oppelaar doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Pepe missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Pepe won't allow Oppelaar to sweep him here. Oppelaar keeping moving, preventing Pepe from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Oppelaar working for a triangle but Pepe defends it easily.

Pepe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Oppelaar is proving hard to escape from. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pepe's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Oppelaar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pepe manages to get himself to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oppelaar stops Pepe from standing up. Oppelaar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oppelaar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Oppelaar prevents Pepe from getting back to his feet. Oppelaar passes easily into side control. Nice work. Oppelaar works to advance to full mount. Pepe defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Oppelaar landing punches. Oppelaar has control of Pepe's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Pepe regains control of the situation pretty easily.
This has been an exciting period of action! Pepe wants to control but Oppelaar is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Oppelaar lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Pepe is trying to stand up. Oppelaar scoring with strikes but Pepe is staying in there. Oppelaar looking to control but Pepe is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Oppelaar postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pepe looks a forlorn figure.
Pepe looks gassed! Oppelaar postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Pepe in real trouble here! The ref calls for Pepe to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
