PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giuseppe Omni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Omni has chosen Search and Destroy as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paulo Kang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Giuseppe Omni!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Omni works over Kang's head and body with a nice combination.
Omni shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kang sprawls well. Kang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Omni gets slowly back to his feet.
Omni will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kang moves into range and clinches up with Omni.
Kang missing with knees to the body.
Omni is trying to force a seperation but Kang has the dominant position.
Kang working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Kang prevents Omni from breaking the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kang creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Kang is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Omni is keeping busy.
Omni wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Omni is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Omni wants to get back to striking at distance but Kang won't allow it.
Kang can't find room to land a body shot as Omni controls the action.
Kang controlling the action here for a moment.
Kang keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Omni's efforts to push away.

Omni is trying to break the clinch but Kang is controlling him.

Omni wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kang has him pressed against the cage.
Kang makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
A frustrated look appears on Omni's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Omni manages to break the clinch.
Kang connects with a crisp jab.
Omni closes the distance and clinches up with Kang, looking for a takedown. Omni pushes Kang against the cage but Kang circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Paulo Kang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Giuseppe Omni.
No luck for Omni with that takedown attempt.
Kang fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Omni shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kang as he jumps to the side.
Omni tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Omni somewhat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kang will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kang wants to slow Omni down by chopping away at his legs.
Omni slips a jab from Kang.

Kang gets a clinch.
Kang tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Omni has had enough of the clinch but Kang keeps him there for the moment.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kang keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Omni's efforts to push away.
Omni can't break the clinch.
Omni has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Kang with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Kang lands a hook to the side of the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Come on Kang - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Kang lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Kang landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Omni tries to circle away but Kang has him pinned against the cage.
Kang misses with a knee strike.
Omni tries to break the clinch but Kang is controlling the position.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kang creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Kang scores with a shot to the side of Omni's head.
Omni drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kang pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kang tries to bum rush Omni with a series of wild strikes but Omni uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kang throws a body punch but Omni moves out of range.
Kang pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Kang misses with a body shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Omni defending well as Kang loads up on a big left hand.

Kang gets a clinch.
Omni is trying to break the clinch but Kang has him pressed against the cage.
Omni wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kang has him pressed against the cage.
Kang lands a body shot.
Omni tries to circle away but Kang has him pinned against the cage.
Knees in the clinch landing for Kang.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Omni as Kang tries to tie him up.

Omni escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Omni ducks under a wild hook from Kang.
Kang thows a body shot but no joy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kang moves into the clinch.
Kang stalling.
Omni takes a knee right on the jaw!
Omni changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kang fights it off and pushes away nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paulo Kang dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Omni.
Omni uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kang.
Kang lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Omni misses with a takedown attempt - Kang sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Horrible takedown by Omni or perhaps it was just good defense by Kang which made him look bad.
Paulo Kang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Giuseppe Omni.
Omni misses with a two punch combination.
Giuseppe Omni is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Omni clinches with his opponent.
Omni is trying to break the clinch but Kang has him pressed against the cage.
Kang lands a shoulder strike.
Kang keeps control of Omni as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kang lands a left hand.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kang takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

The referee is keeping an eye on Kang - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Omni is trying to force a seperation but Kang has the dominant position.
Kang unloads a knee to the mid-section. Omni lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Omni is trying to push Kang away but Kang has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kang lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Kang lands with a short shot to the head.
Kang lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Kang throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Omnis head.


Omni is rocked!
A nice right hand lands inside from Kang.
Omni is still on wobbly legs! Can Kang finish him?

Kang using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Omni has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Omni can't break the clinch.
Kang lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Omni is trying to break the clinch but Kang is controlling him.
Kang misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Kang lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Kang lands a knee to the body.
Omni is breathing heavily.
Kang throws a knee to the head but misses.
Kang with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Kang prevents Omni from breaking the clinch.
Omni looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kang utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

A right handed body shot lands from Kang.
Kang throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Omnis head.
Kang jerks Omni's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Omni drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Kang goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Kang because Omni was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knee). Paulo Kang!
Paulo Kang spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a big arrogant.
