PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Hosking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Ponting (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hosking's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, War Machine. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Vincent Hosking!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Ponting!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ponting looks to land a combination but Hosking avoids it well.
Ponting swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hosking counters with an outside leg kick.
Hosking ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hosking avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ricky Ponting seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ponting throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Hosking dodges the punch combination from Ponting.
Ponting leaves Hosking with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ponting misses with a head kick.
Ponting falls off balance throwing a combination

and Hosking counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hosking tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ponting's legs.
Ponting defending against the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ponting is looking for a sweep.
Hosking postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hosking trying to control the action but Ponting is working from the bottom.

Hosking goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ponting has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hosking but great work by Ponting.
Ponting scores with a couple of short elbows.
Ponting in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Ponting has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hosking dodges the ground and pound from Ponting.
Hosking being controlled for a moment.
Ponting postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hosking is looking to regain half guard here but Ponting keeps moving and retains side control.
Ponting lands some shots froms side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hosking defending against the ground and pound.
Ponting grinds an elbow into Hosking's temple.
Ponting creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Hosking is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Ponting tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Hosking sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Ponting not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Ponting working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Ponting drops an elbow to the side of Hosking's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ponting in particular looking to stall.
Ponting thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hosking trying to control but Ponting postures up.

Ponting is looking for a kimura but Hosking is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ponting to get the leverage.
Ponting looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hosking with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Hosking keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Ponting throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ponting wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hosking keeps working.
Hosking is trying to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ponting looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hosking with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Ponting has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Hosking defend it? Ponting steps over the head and cranks it - Hosking is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Ponting!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ricky Ponting!
