PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fyodor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Kyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kyle is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by UFC - Face the Pain . Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fyodor Emelianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Kyle ! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kyle tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Emelianenko paws at him with a jab and circles away. Kyle connects with an inside leg kick. Kyle tries to clinch up. Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kyle as he avoids it easily. Kyle doesn't manage to clinch there - Emelianenko circles away.
Emelianenko rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kyle moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Kyle tries to clinch up and Emelianenko counters with a left to the body. Kyle is looking to clinch but Emelianenko is avoiding it.
Kyle closes the distance but Emelianenko moves to the side and Emelianenko counters with a single leg into guard. Kyle didn't expect that.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emelianenko prevents Kyle from getting back to his feet. Emelianenko with a flurry of punches that miss. Emelianenko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Emelianenko trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kyle wants to get back to his feet but Emelianenko is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Emelianenko postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Emelianenko prevents Kyle from getting back to his feet. Kyle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Emelianenko is aware though and is defending well. Kyle preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Emelianenko throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Emelianenko stops Kyle from standing up. Kyle is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Emelianenko trying to control the position from guard on top but Kyle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Emelianenko preventing the sweep. Kyle utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kyle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Emelianenko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Emelianenko won't allow Kyle to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kyle wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Emelianenko manages to pass to side control. Emelianenko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Emelianenko trying to control the action but Kyle is working from the bottom. Emelianenko working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kyle wants to get back to his feet.
Emelianenko sitting and controlling from the half guard. Emelianenko trying to control the action but Kyle is working from the bottom. Emelianenko lands with a punch from half guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Emelianenko throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Emelianenko connects with a nice short shot to Kyle 's temple. Emelianenko thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kyle 's head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fyodor Emelianenko dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Kyle forces Emelianenko back against the ropes and clinches. Kyle with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Emelianenko tries to break the clinch but Kyle is controlling the position. Kyle gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Emelianenko.
Emelianenko drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kyle pulls his leg out and moves away.
Emelianenko takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Kyle slaps away a takedown attempt from Emelianenko, before circling back to the center of the mat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fyodor Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him. Emelianenko is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kyle sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. A solid body kick from Kyle . Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kyle tries to clinch up but Emelianenko circles away and keeps his distance. Kyle throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Emelianenko stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Kyle follows into mount!
Emelianenko is rocked!
It looks like Fyodor Emelianenko has been cut. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kyle tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment. Oh Emelianenko is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Kyle controlling his opponent. Fyodor Emelianenko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kyle wants to stand but Emelianenko is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

Kyle controlling the pace for now. Kyle tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment. Kyle controlling the pace for now.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Mike Kyle hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Emelianenko drops his hands momentarily and Kyle needs no second invitation. He sets himself and throws a perfect high kick, that clips Emelianenko just on the top of the head. Emelianenko drops like a sack of potatoes to the canvas, out cold! Oooooooh yeah! Stick a fork in Emelianenko - he's done!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Mike Kyle !
