1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mychal Yevon Rook! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Yevon Rook. Those never looked like landing. Yevon Rook moves into the clinch. Yevon Rook escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Michael Benard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Benard darts in trying to clinch and Yevon Rook counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Yevon Rook looking to score a takedown here. Benard is defending well but Yevon Rook drives through and ends up in Benard's guard. Benard is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Yevon Rook is controlling him. Benard keeping full guard, as Yevon Rook tries to pass. Benard throws his legs up looking for a submission but Yevon Rook uses it to pass to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yevon Rook is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Benard will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Yevon Rook trying to control the action but Benard is working from the bottom. Yevon Rook tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Yevon Rook is working Benard over with some ground and pound from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Yevon Rook takes a little break here. Benard wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Benard gets back to half guard. Benard is in trouble now - Yevon Rook has advanced to mount! Yevon Rook trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Benard is desperately trying to improve his position but Yevon Rook has a good base and remains in mount. Benard is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Yevon Rook can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Benard is looking to escape. Yevon Rook looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Benard taking shots to the head. Yevon Rook lands a nice shot to the head. BOOM! Yevon Rook connects with a massive shot to the dome!
