Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Der Merwe has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Van Der Merwe there as he acknowledges the shot.
Watkins moves into the clinch successfully.
Van Der Merwe tries to pull guard but Watkins holds him up against the cage and eventually Van Der Merwe drops back down to his feet.
Watkins tries to work over Van Der Merwe's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Van Der Merwe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Watkins tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Watkins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Watkins looks for the body kick but Van Der Merwe saw that one coming.
Watkins closes this distance looking for a takedown but Van Der Merwe circles away.
Watkins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Van Der Merwe shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Van Der Merwe showed some decent athleticism there.
