PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between George Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Spitteri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spitteri has chosen Before I Forget as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, George Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sean Spitteri!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spitteri looks for a takedown but Hughes sprawls well.
Hughes stuffs the takedown attempt from Spitteri. Spitteri gets slowly back to his feet.

Hughes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Hughes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Spitteri is defending well for now.

Spitteri successfully pulls guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Spitteri keeping moving, preventing Hughes from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hughes goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spitteri moves in looking to clinch but Hughes pushes him off.
Hughes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Spitteri is fending him off so far but Hughes persists. Nope, Spitteri circles away and we're back to standing.
Hughes takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Hughes moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Spitteri lands a jab.


It looks like George Hughes has been cut.

Hughes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Spitteri utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Spitteri manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Spitteri throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Spitteri trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hughes is looking to improve his position but Spitteri isn't that keen on the idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hughes wants to control but Spitteri is having none of it.

Spitteri wants to finish this one by submission but Hughes is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Spitteri.
Spitteri landing strikes, looking to finish!
Spitteri is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hughes can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hughes in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.


Hughes is rocked!
Spitteri loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Hughes scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Spitteri land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Spitteri stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sean Spitteri!
