PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiyai Wanggai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiyai Wanggai!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silver shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Wanggai is defending against the submission attempts here by Silver.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Silver connects with a nice short shot to Wanggai's temple.
Wanggai tries to get to full guard but Silver has control of the leg.
Wanggai flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Wanggai slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Wanggai working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silver doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silver manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wanggai is on top in guard.

Silver wriggles free and stands up.
Silver tries to clinch but Wanggai is having none of it.
Anderson Silver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silver closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wanggai did well to prevent Silver getting side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Wanggai is looking for a kimura but Silver is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wanggai to get the leverage.

Wanggai working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Wanggai seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silver does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wanggai is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Silver really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kiyai Wanggai dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Silver shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wanggai pinned against the cage. Wanggai gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Horrible takedown by Wanggai or perhaps it was just good defense by Silver which made him look bad.

Wanggai throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Anderson Silver is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wanggai fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Silver avoids it really well and circles away.

Anderson Silver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kiyai Wanggai.

Wanggai shoots for a double leg takedown but Silver sprawls well. He's pushed Wanggai's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Silver tries to clinch up but Wanggai circles away and keeps his distance.
Wanggai changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silver tries to avoid it but Wanggai manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silver to the ground. Silver escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Silver fails to land with a series of punches.
Wanggai closes the distance and clinches up with Silver, looking for a takedown. Wanggai pushes Silver against the cage but Silver circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wanggai is breathing heavily.
Wanggai avoids the head kick by Silver.
Wanggai shoots in looking for a takedown but Silver manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wanggai's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Wanggai decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Silver's guard.
Silver is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kiyai Wanggai has got the better of the ground game so far.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wanggai is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Silver can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Kiyai Wanggai showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Silver doesn't manage to clinch there - Wanggai circles away.

Wanggai makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Silver manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wanggai manages to get himself to full guard.

Silver has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Wanggai to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Silver is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Wanggai pulls down on the head and he's put Silver to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kiyai Wanggai!
Kiyai Wanggai tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
