Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Greg St Pierre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander White! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! St Pierre misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Good shot there by St Pierre. St Pierre looks for a takedown but White sprawls well. White throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. White keeps the fight on the outside. St Pierre tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. St Pierre pulls out of a head kick attempt.
St Pierre is trying hard to land a takedown here. White sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg St Pierre. That's going to take a lot out of him. St Pierre wants to clinch but White slips to the side and White counters with a shoot takedown. St Pierre fights it but they end up in guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. White throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. St Pierre wants to stand and escape but White is having none of it. White trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. St Pierre is looking to stand up but White isn't so interested in that idea. White passes St Pierre's left leg - he's now in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. White connects with a nice short shot to St Pierre's temple. St Pierre looks like he's trying to stand up.
St Pierre is breathing heavily. White winds up and cracks St Pierre with a swinging punch to the side of the head. White stands up from half guard. White moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. White gets a double leg takedown into St Pierre's guard. White wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving. White passes St Pierre's left leg - he's now in half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. White looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
St Pierre really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. White thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed St Pierre's head. St Pierre is trying to control but can't.
White is just content to waste time from the top position. St Pierre takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! White wants to stand but St Pierre is controlling his posture from full guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as White accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alexander White dominated that round. That's time! St Pierre's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
White fails with the takedown. White closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - White lands in his opponent's guard. White prevents St Pierre from getting back to his feet. White trying to control the position from guard on top but St Pierre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hammerfist, elbow! yells White's corner. There ya go! There ya go! White looking to pass the guard. White distracts St Pierre with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. St Pierre wants to sweep here but White controlling him for the moment. St Pierre trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
That's one minute gone in the round. White looking to pass the guard. St Pierre has his feet on White's thighs here. He's pushed White off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! White screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
