PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jin Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jussi Syren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Syren has chosen Kung Fu Taistelee as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jussi Syren was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Jin Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jussi Syren!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Syren swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kim shoots for a double leg takedown but Syren sprawls well. He's pushed Kim's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kim shoots for a takedown but Syren saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Syren lands a glancing blow to the side of Kim's head.

It looks like Jin Kim has been cut.
Syren cracks Kim with a good jab.
Kim fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kim looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Kim tries for a takedown but Syren sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Jin Kim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kim shoots in and drives through. Syren sprawls well.

Syren will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kim shoots in looking for a takedown but Syren manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kim's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Syren misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kim avoids a punch combination nicely.
Syren misses with a wild body shot.
No luck for Kim with that takedown attempt.

and Syren counters with a series of strikes. Kim will be more careful next time no doubt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kim.
Kim is breathing heavily.
Syren throws a right and a left that Kim avoids nicely.
Kim fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Syren stuns Kim with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jussi Syren dominated that round.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kim takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Syren lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Syren misses with a body shot.
Syren connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kim looks for a takedown but Syren sprawls well.
Jussi Syren seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Syren works the jab nicely.
Jussi Syren is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kim dives in and grabs Syren's left leg, looking for a takedown. Syren pushes down on Kim's head and hops out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kim is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Syren's half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Syren can do anything to dispel that myth.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Syren wants to stand back up but Kim manages to pass into side control.
Kim prevents Syren from escaping the position.

Kim throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Syren is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Kim creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Syren sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

An elbow from Kim crashes against the mat.
Kim postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Kim misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kim is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Syren is trying to escape and Kim transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Syren is forced to tap! Nice work there by Kim! Very nice indeed!
