Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Esa Nahka! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jared Wepprecht! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Chad Campbell and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nahka rushes Wepprecht and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Nahka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Wepprecht keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Nahka shoots in and drives through. Wepprecht sprawls well. Wepprecht stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Esa Nahka. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nahka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wepprecht tries to avoid it but Nahka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wepprecht to the ground. Wepprecht escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Nahka tries to keep at a distance but Wepprecht has taken the fight into the clinch. Nahka tries to pull guard but Wepprecht holds him up against the cage and eventually Nahka drops back down to his feet.
Nahka stalls. Wepprecht keeps control of Nahka as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Wepprecht makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Nahka tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wepprecht just stands there and leans against the cage. Nahka jumps guard but Wepprecht stands there with Nahka around his waist. Nahka gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Wepprecht escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nahka doesn't manage to clinch there - Wepprecht circles away.
Wepprecht pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jared Wepprecht seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wepprecht scores with a jab to the body. Wepprecht shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Wepprecht trying to control but Nahka is working from the bottom. Wepprecht tries to stand but Nahka is controlling from the bottom. Wepprecht must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Wepprecht trying to control the position from guard on top but Nahka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nahka is trying to keep Wepprecht in close.
Wepprecht wants to stand but Nahka is controlling his posture from full guard. Wepprecht is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nahka has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Wepprecht doesn't defend quickly enough and Nahka has managed to lock this one up! Can Wepprecht escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Nahka on a fantastic submission victory.
