The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McVey has closed the distance and engaged Szymanski in a clinch.

Szymanski dives in and grabs McVey's left leg, looking for a takedown. McVey pushes down on Szymanski's head and hops out. Szymanski shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McVey as he jumps to the side. Szymanski throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Dhughel McVey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Silvester Szymanski. McVey tries to clinch up. Szymanski looks to score with a jab to the body but McVey is just out of range. Szymanski is breathing heavily. Szymanski forces McVey back against the cage and clinches. McVey with the Thai clinch. But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Szymanski, into his guard. McVey sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Szymanski's guard. McVey is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

McVey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Szymanski does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. McVey is stalling here. Szymanski is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! McVey seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Szymanski has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. McVey manages to get back to half guard.
