The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matiss is wriggling around trying to escape.

Gadd is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Matiss has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Matiss is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Matiss tries to lock up and control but Gadd gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gadd swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Matiss is now in Gadd's guard. A big mistake from Gadd there, giving up the dominant position!

Gadd is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Matiss defends well.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Matiss gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Mario Matiss seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gadd tries to keep at a distance but Matiss has taken the fight into the clinch.
Matiss tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Gadd avoids it.

Matiss seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Matiss breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Matiss's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Matiss moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Matiss feints and then cracks Gadd's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gadd down.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Matiss.
Matiss lands a head kick!


It looks like Paul Gadd has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Matiss scores with a spinning back kick!
A thudding body kick lands there by Matiss!
Matiss throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Good leg kick by Matiss there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Matiss circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Gadd drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Matiss follows Gadd to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mario Matiss!
