PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan McCarthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alpa Chino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chino has chosen Smile Back as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan McCarthy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alpa Chino!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chino shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McCarthy but McCarthy pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McCarthy thows a body shot but no joy.
Chino shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McCarthy as he avoids it easily.
McCarthy misses with an uppercut. Chino saw that one coming.
Chino ducks under a wild hook from McCarthy.
McCarthy connects with a body shot that sends Chino's belly button to the back.
No joy there for Chino, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McCarthy's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and McCarthy duly obliges.
McCarthy smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Chino feints and as McCarthy raises his hands in defense, Chino changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
McCarthy wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chino is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
McCarthy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Chino is controlling him.
McCarthy trying to keep a closed guard but Chino is proving a slippery customer.
McCarthy on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McCarthy tries to get out of the position.
Chino not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Chino closes the distance and clinches up with McCarthy, looking for a takedown. Chino pushes McCarthy against the cage but McCarthy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ryan McCarthy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alpa Chino.
McCarthy misses the shot to the body.
Chino avoids the body shot from McCarthy.

Chino waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract McCarthy.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McCarthy enables Chino to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McCarthy manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Chino tries for a kimura but McCarthy is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McCarthy is letting Chino control him for a moment.

Chino is trying to get an arm triangle but McCarthy is defending well.
McCarthy pushes Chino away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Chino gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

McCarthy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chino content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Chino on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
McCarthy feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Chinos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Chino takes one on the chin but seems OK.
McCarthy throws a hook but Chino avoids it easily.

Chino shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Chino wants to take a breather but McCarthy is having none of it.
Alpa Chino has got the better of the ground game so far.
McCarthy is positioning himself well to prevent Chino advancing to mount.
Chino is keen to just control but McCarthy is a slippery customer.

Chino is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Chino is figuring out what he wants to do next.

McCarthy blocking the ground and pound attempt from Chino.

Chino is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Chino looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Chino is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

McCarthy wants to get back to full guard.
Chino throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
McCarthy wants to improve his position but Chino is controlling well.
McCarthy is refusing to be controlled, as Chino sits in half guard.
McCarthy blocking the ground and pound attempt from Chino.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chino with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Chino is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McCarthy doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Chino.
Chino wants to control but McCarthy is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chino is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
McCarthy is trying to stand back up but Chino is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alpa Chino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Chino misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
McCarthy is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Horrible takedown by Chino or perhaps it was just good defense by McCarthy which made him look bad.
McCarthy is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Chino misses with the combination.
Chino fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ryan McCarthy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alpa Chino.

and Chino counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McCarthy's guard now.
McCarthy keeping moving, preventing Chino from controlling successfully.

Chino wants to pass the guard but McCarthy is keeping the position.
Chino forces his way into half guard.

Chino wants to work for an arm triangle but McCarthy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ryan McCarthy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Chino looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McCarthy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
McCarthy trying to hold on to Chino's head to control him but Chino postures up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chino is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Chino wants to control but McCarthy is keeping him busy.
Chino perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Chino is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McCarthy defends it well.

McCarthy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chino on the ground.

Alpa Chino comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Chino winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
