PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Castillo !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castillo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Velasquez avoids it really well and circles away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Velasquez is defended easily by Castillo .

Velasquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Velasquez lands in his opponent's guard.

Castillo scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Castillo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Velasquez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Castillo drops Velasquez with a nice combination! Castillo dives into Velasquez's guard, looking to finish!


It looks like cain Velasquez has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Velasquez trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Castillo stands and steps away. Velasquez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nice takedown defense from Castillo . No joy for Velasquez on that attempt.
Justin Castillo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of cain Velasquez.
Castillo closes the distance and clinches up with Velasquez, looking for a takedown. Castillo pushes Velasquez against the cage but Velasquez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Velasquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Castillo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velasquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Castillo sprawls well. Castillo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet.
Castillo tries to clinch up but Velasquez circles away and keeps his distance.
Velasquez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Castillo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Castillo wants a takedown.
Velasquez prevents a takedown attempt there.

Castillo pulls guard successfully.

Castillo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Castillo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Castillo wants to break the clinch but can't.
Castillo using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Velasquez has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Velasquez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Castillo 's efforts to push away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Castillo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Castillo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Castillo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velasquez won't allow Castillo to get back to his feet.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Castillo sprawls well. Castillo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet.

A short body shot lands from Castillo as the two fighters clinch.
Castillo throws an elbow that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Castillo tries to score a body lock takedown but Velasquez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Velasquez is trying to drag Castillo to the mat but Castillo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Castillo is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Castillo misses with a takedown attempt - Velasquez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
cain Velasquez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Castillo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Velasquez shoots for a takedown but Castillo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Castillo shoots in and drives through. Velasquez sprawls well.

Velasquez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Castillo 's guard.
Castillo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Velasquez dives into side control.

The referee asks Velasquez politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Velasquez prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Velasquez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Castillo wants to control but Velasquez postures up.

Velasquez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Castillo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Castillo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Velasquez's head.
Castillo performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Castillo seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Justin Castillo .

Velasquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Castillo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velasquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Castillo cracks Velasquez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Velasquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Castillo circles away.
Castillo shoots in but no luck this time.

and Velasquez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Castillo won't be happy with that.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Castillo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Velasquez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Castillo is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Velasquez asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Castillo tries to bench press Velasquez off him but Velasquez keeps the position.
Velasquez misses with the ground and pound.
Velasquez takes a little break here. Castillo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Castillo is looking to reverse the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
cain Velasquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Velasquez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
