PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lars Marter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Kalos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kalos has chosen Cracks (Flux Pavillion) as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Michael Kalos is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lars Marter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Kalos!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Franklyn Lucas and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Marter closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Marter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Michael Kalos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kalos misses with a series of wild punches.
Marter looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Marter tries a head kick but it misses.

Marter has managed to clinch.
Kalos is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Kalos blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Kalos wants to break the clinch but can't.
Marter is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kalos is defending well for now.

Marter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Marter takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Marter throws a wild body kick that Kalos sees coming a mile off.

Kalos scores with a one two! Marter had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Marter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Marter has closed the distance and engaged Kalos in a clinch.
Kalos tries to circle away but Marter has him pinned against the cage.

Marter pulls Kalos into guard.
Kalos thows a big elbow that misses.
Marter keeping moving, preventing Kalos from controlling successfully.
Kalos pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Marter is keeping the position for now.

Kalos got a little sloppy there for a moment and Marter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kalos has managed to get both his arms back between Marter's legs - danger averted.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Michael Kalos hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Marter checks the leg kick nicely there.

Kalos tries to keep at a distance but Marter has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kalos wants to break the clinch but can't.

Kalos avoiding damage as Marter throws knees to the body.
Kalos is trying to break free.

Kalos is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Marter manages to break the clinch.
Marter takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Marter fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Marter is breathing heavily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kalos looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marter is fending him off so far but Kalos persists. Nope, Marter circles away and we're back to standing.
Kalos throws a head kick but Marter moves out of range.

Marter moves into the clinch successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lars Marter will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Marter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Marter wants it to stay on the feet.
Donk. Kalos catches Marter right on the button with a cross.
Kalos scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Marter gets a clinch.
Marter lands a nice shot to the body.
Marter tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A short left from Marter.
Kalos tries to break the clinch but Marter is controlling the position.

Marter lands a takedown into guard.
Marter postures up.
Marter pushes down on Kalos's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Kalos tries to kick Marter off but Marter keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kalos gets back to full guard.
Marter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kalos is keeping the position for now.
Kalos trying to keep a closed guard but Marter is proving a slippery customer.
Kalos striking off his back but it's not causing Marter any problems.
Marter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Marter working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kalos's head.
Kalos is trying to keep Marter in close.
Kalos tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Marter stays in close to Kalos's body and controls the position.
Kalos is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kalos is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kalos is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Michael Kalos.
Kalos wants to land a leg kick but Marter is out of range.
Kalos jabs Marter right on the nose. Marter blinks but takes it well.
Kalos looks to land a combination but Marter avoids it well.
Kalos is breathing heavily.

Kalos lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Marter darts in and clinches Kalos up against the cage.

Marter is trying to trip Kalos. He has hold of a leg but Kalos is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Marter persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Marter's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Marter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kalos is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kalos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kalos is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Marter has his hands clasped together but Kalos extends an breaks Marter's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Kalos.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Michael Kalos!
Michael Kalos tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
