Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Takeshi Yuudai!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Curtis Sharp!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Sharp misses.
Yuudai keeps the fight on the outside.
Curtis Sharp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yuudai on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Sharp lunges at Yuudai with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Yuudai's hand.
Yuudai swings for the body but Sharp moves out of range.
Yuudai lands a right hook to the body.
Sharp throws a jab but it's blocked by Yuudai.
Sharp misses with a hook. Yuudai ducked under it nicely.
Sharp takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Yuudai scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Sharp wants to improve his position but Yuudai is controlling well.

Yuudai is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sharp sees it coming and defends easily.

Yuudai is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yuudai trying to pass the guard but Sharp defending well.
Sharp keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Yuudai looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sharp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yuudai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Yuudai not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sharp can do anything to dispel that myth.

Sharp is defending against the submission attempts here by Yuudai.
Yuudai thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sharp's head.

Yuudai is pressing down on Sharp's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sharp is holding on for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yuudai frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Yuudai lands a big shot there that rocks Sharp but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Yuudai sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Yuudai takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Yuudai avoids the head kick by Sharp.
Sharp throws a nice looking combination but Yuudai bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Yuudai shoots in for a takedown but Sharp shows good takedown defense.

and Yuudai counters by moving into the clinch.

Yuudai pulls guard successfully.

Sharp wants to control from the top but Yuudai keeps moving.
Yuudai will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Yuudai has his foot on Sharp's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sharp works his way back into a safe position though.
Sharp is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Yuudai has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sharp can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Yuudai lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sharp!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sharp wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Yuudai.

and Yuudai counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sharp's guard now.
Sharp utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Yuudai stands up over Sharp, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Sharp's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sharp ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Yuudai moves away.

Yuudai drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sharp pushes Yuudai away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Yuudai gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Yuudai has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Yuudai sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sharp is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Yuudai tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yuudai has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Yuudai misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Yuudai is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Sharp is trying to escape and Yuudai transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Sharp is forced to tap! Nice work there by Yuudai! Very nice indeed!
