PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Felix Aves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harper is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Sex on fire. Nathan Harper is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan Harper!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harper closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Aves sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Aves is looking for a sweep. Harper is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Aves is defending against the submission attempts here by Harper.

Harper seems to be working for a kimura but Aves defends the submission attempt.
Harper trying to control the action but Aves is working from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Harper in particular looking to stall.
Aves wants to get back to full guard.

Aves pushes Harper off and gets back to his feet.
Harper looks gassed!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Aves.
Aves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Harper keeps working.
Harper is trying to control Aves's posture but Aves avoids it.
Harper tries to improve position but can't.
Aves tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
A control attempt from Harper but he's now mounted!
Harper tries to hold on but Aves pushes him away.

Aves controlling the position easily from mount.
Harper takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Aves has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Harper's face.
Aves tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Aves lands a big elbow.
Aves sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Aves lands a nice shot to the head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Harper can do anything to dispel that myth.
Harper really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Harper is trying to reverse the position but instead Aves has taken his back - oops!
Harper turns into Aves and is now in his guard.

Harper is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Harper keeps the fight on the outside.

Harper fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Aves sprawls well initially but Harper persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Harper perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Harper passes to side control.
Harper advances to mount.
Harper controlling the pace for now.
Aves is looking to improve his position but Harper isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nathan Harper will probably get the nod.
That's time! Aves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Aves wants to pass the guard but Harper is keeping the position.
Aves stays in close to Harper's body and controls the position.
Aves trying to control the position from guard on top but Harper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Aves is really struggling to control Harper but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Aves is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Harper is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Harper is breathing heavily.
Harper controls Aves momentarily but Aves frees himself.

Aves postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
A right-left combo lands from Aves.
Aves avoids the head kick by Harper.

Aves rushes Harper and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Aves drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Harper tries to pull guard but Aves won't allow it.
Aves's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Aves lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Harper changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Aves fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Aves drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Harper gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Harper has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Aves avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Felix Aves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Harper.

Harper breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Harper shoots in and bounces Aves off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Harper must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Harper sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Aves's guard.

Harper passes the guard and advances to mount!

Harper get's back to his feet.
Harper fails with the takedown

and Aves counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Harper!
Harper regains half guard.
Harper tries to roll over but Aves keeps him under control.
Aves is keen to just control but Harper is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harper slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Harper looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Harper can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Aves controls the pace.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Aves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Aves wants to control from the top but Harper keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harper wants to improve his position but instead Aves has moved into half guard.
Harper is staying active underneath Aves, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Harper is trying to maintain the position but Aves is very close to passing his half guard.
Harper makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Harper.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Aves controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Felix Aves dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Harper pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Aves gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Harper counters with a head kick. That will keep Aves thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Aves closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Aves tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Harper smiles and moves away.
Aves lands a nice looking body kick.
Harper tries to clinch up.
Aves clinches but Harper breaks the clinch

and Harper counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Aves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Harper manages to get himself to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Harper is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Aves postures up.
Aves wants to stand but Harper has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Harper is controlling Aves's posture.
Aves sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Harper misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Harper is not content to let Aves control the position.
Harper tries to get to full guard but Aves has control of the leg.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Harper is defending against the submission attempts here by Aves.

Aves decides to return to a standing position.
Aves misses with a jab, cross combination.

Aves works his way to full guard. Good work.

Aves looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Harper is defending well. Aves quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Harper has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Aves celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
