PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Gernansky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gernansky comes to the cage accompanied by Red October. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladimir Gernansky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Jones!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jones wants to clinch.

Jones gets a takedown into half guard.

Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Gernansky wants to get back to full guard.
Gernansky makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gernansky.
Jones sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Jones stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Gernansky tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Jones counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gernansky. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Gernansky fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Gernansky is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gernansky looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Jones is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Gernansky will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
I looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Gernansky tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Jones cracks Gernansky with a big right hand but Gernansky just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Gernansky tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gernansky is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.
Gernansky sneaks back into half guard.
Gernansky works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jones is pushing down on Gernansky's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gernansky is fighting to maintain full guard but Jones has managed to sneak the leg through.

Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gernansky with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jones wants to control but Gernansky is keeping him busy.
Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gernansky knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Jones is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jones tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gernansky.
Jones trying to control from half guard but Gernansky is working away.
Jones scoring with strikes to the body and head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gernansky's head.
Jones tries to stand but can't do so whilst Gernansky controls his leg.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Gernansky closes the distance but Jones moves to the side

and Jones counters with a takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Gernansky tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Gernansky is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Jones is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Gernansky is trying to keep Jones in close.

Gernansky working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jones postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bobby Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gernansky manages to get to full guard.
Gernansky wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Gernansky is looking to stand back up but Jones counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Gernansky.

Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gernansky keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

Jones avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gernansky has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.

Gernansky looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones is pushing Gernansky's head away, looking to escape. Gernansky manages to hold on to the position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jones throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gernansky swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A head kick misses from Gernansky.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gernansky to the mat! Gernansky manages to get full guard.
Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jones lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

I would just about give that final round to Bobby Jones.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
