Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Khan's choice of entrance music: Ready 4 War. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gustavo Ribeiro!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Genghis Khan!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Reed Andrews and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ribeiro gets the takedown into side control.
Ribeiro staying calm.
Khan is looking to reverse the position.
Ribeiro working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Ribeiro tries for a kimura but Khan is defending well.
Khan tries to buck Ribeiro off but Ribeiro is having none of it.
Khan regains half guard there - taking advantage of Ribeiro's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ribeiro in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ribeiro is looking to take a break and control but Khan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Khan defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Ribeiro's arms.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ribeiro scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Ribeiro lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.

Ribeiro is persistently looking for the submission but Khan is defending it well.
Khan tries to escape the position.

Ribeiro looking to break Khan's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Khan remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ribeiro will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ribeiro is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Khan knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Khan for a finish.
Ribeiro is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Khan is fighting to break Ribeiro's control of his arms but Ribeiro is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Ribeiro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Gustavo Ribeiro.
Khan cracks a nice hook into Ribeiro's ribs.

Khan gets caught flat footed, as Ribeiro shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ribeiro stands and throws Khan's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Ribeiro is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Khan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ribeiro is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Khan can do to turn this around?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ribeiro connects with a decent elbow.
Gustavo Ribeiro overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Khan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Ribeiro wants to control but Khan is keeping him busy.

Khan kicks off Ribeiro and gets to his feet.

and Ribeiro counters with a nice double leg into side control. Khan won't be happy with that.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Khan wants to get back to his feet but Ribeiro drags him back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Khan scores with a hook to the body. Ribeiro takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Ribeiro closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ribeiro lands in his opponent's guard.

Khan looking for subs from the bottom but Ribeiro mounts him!
Khan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ribeiro tries to control but Khan wriggling away.
Ribeiro moves to back control.
Khan manages to reverse the position and now he's in Ribeiro's guard. Nice work there by Khan.

Khan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ribeiro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Khan has managed to get both his arms back between Ribeiro's legs - danger averted.

Khan is sitting in close to Ribeiro's body. Ribeiro has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Khan is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Khan is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Ribeiro.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Gustavo Ribeiro!
