Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Lowe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Cabbat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Lowe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eric Cabbat!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cabbat throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Cabbat feints a jab promting Lowe to slip. Cabbat then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Lowe slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Alex Lowe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lowe shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Cabbat counters with a two punch combo.
Lowe takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Lowe is breathing heavily.
Cabbat throws a sloppy head kick and Lowe moves out of range easily.
Cabbat scores with a sloppy right hand. Lowe should have avoided that one.
Lowe on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cabbat scores a takedown into full mount!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Cabbat looking to control and managing it successfully.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Eric Cabbat.
Cabbat lands the left hand.
Cabbat lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Cabbat scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Lowe moves forwards but Cabbat connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Lowe shoots and misses
and Cabbat counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Lowe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cabbat rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lowe moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cabbat connects with a looping right hand.
Cabbat feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Lowes jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Lowe checks a low kick from Cabbat.
Lowe takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A slapping leg kick lands for Cabbat.
Cabbat pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lowe blocks a head kick by Cabbat.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Cabbat!


It looks like Alex Lowe has been cut.
Cabbat lands a jab to Lowe's midsection.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Lowe walks into a straight right hand from Cabbat.
Cabbat thuds his right hand into Lowe's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cabbat throws a good cross that connects.
Cabbat is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Lowe had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Cabbat connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Cabbat lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Cabbat misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Cabbat goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


Lowe is rocked!
Cabbat scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Oh Lowe is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Cabbat is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Lowe. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cabbat pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lowe seems to have got his legs back now.
Cabbat throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lowe stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Cabbat paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Cabbat uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Lowe has time to react.

Cabbat shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lowe is trying to escape back to his feet but Cabbat uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Cabbat dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alex Lowe's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lowe takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Eric Cabbat seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cabbat jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

and Cabbat counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lowe won't be happy with that.
Cabbat controls the position from side control.
Cabbat's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Let's hope that Cabbat has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Eric Cabbat has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Cabbat is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lowe's half guard.
Cabbat is taking a breather. Lowe says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Cabbat has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cabbat looking to control and managing it successfully.

Cabbat has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Eric Cabbat wasn't active enough on the ground.
Cabbat lands with an overhand left.
Cabbat misses with a low kick.
Lowe moves forwards but Cabbat connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Lowe tries to move into range but Cabbat moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Cabbat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lowe looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Cabbat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cabbat gets a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Lowe is trying to maintain the position but Cabbat is very close to passing his half guard.
Cabbat perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lowe takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Lowe tries for a takedown but Cabbat circles away easily
and Cabbat counters with a stiff right hand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cabbat throws a chopping leg kick but Lowe manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Alex Lowe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lowe takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Lowe takes a kick to the side of the head.
Lowe avoids a punch combination nicely.
Lowe ducks right into an uppercut from Cabbat.
Cabbat lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cabbat.

Lowe tries to sprawl but Cabbat drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Cabbat with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Cabbat passes the guard and advances to mount!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cabbat tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Eric Cabbat is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Lowe fails with the takedown

and Cabbat decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lowe's guard.
Cabbat passes Lowe's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Alex Lowe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Cabbat slows the pace down in half guard.
Lowe tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Cabbat manages to move to mount!
Lowe is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eric Cabbat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cabbat has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
