PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Greg Corn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Lauzon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sam Lauzon was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Greg Corn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Lauzon!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corn throws a nice looking combination but Lauzon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Corn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lauzon was covering up waiting for the punch and Corn finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Corn is looking to stand up but Lauzon won't let him.
Corn is fighting to break Lauzon's control of his arms but Lauzon is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Corn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Corn wants to control from the top but Lauzon keeps moving.
Corn wants to stand but Lauzon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Corn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Greg Corn.
Lauzon fails with the takedown
and Corn counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Lauzon is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Lauzon shoots in and gets a takedown into Corn's guard.
Lauzon trying to control the position from guard on top but Corn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Corn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lauzon is one step ahead there.
Corn wants to control but Lauzon passes easily into half guard.
Corn makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Corn.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Corn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Corn wants to stand but Lauzon is controlling the position.

Corn pushes Lauzon off and gets back to his feet.

Corn has taken the fight to the clinch.
Lauzon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Corn walks away with a smile on his face. Lauzon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Corn drives through with a takedown into Lauzon's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Lauzon looks gassed!
Corn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Corn gets to his feet - Lauzon follows without any prompting.
Lauzon dodges the punch combination from Corn.
Corn lands a nice looking kick to the body. Lauzon takes a step back to recover.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Corn drives through with a takedown into guard.
Corn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Corn passes Lauzon's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Corn content to control rather than advance.

Corn gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lauzon tries to keep at a distance but Corn has taken the fight into the clinch.

Corn has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Lauzon clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Will Corn go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg Corn dominated that round.
That's time! Corn's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Corn closes the distance and clinches.
Corn unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Corn with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Corn trying to land knees to the body.
Corn scores with a nice hook to the head.
Corn throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Lauzon blocks it with crossed arms.

Corn pulls guard successfully.
Corn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lauzon!
Corn tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Corn trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Corn is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Lauzon with a poor takedown

and Corn counters with a single leg into guard. Lauzon didn't expect that.
Lauzon is breathing heavily.

Corn stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Corn gets a clinch.
Lauzon on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Corn prevents a takedown attempt there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Corn lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Corn lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Corn passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Lauzon!

Corn controlling from the full mount.
Corn with shots to the head and body - Lauzon looks very uncomfortable down there.
Corn trying to control but Lauzon is having none of it.
Corn takes Lauzon's back.
I would not like to be Lauzon right now.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Corn controlling the positon.
Greg Corn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Corn seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lauzon for as long as he can get away with.
Lauzon is keeping busy.
Corn is really struggling to control Lauzon but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Greg Corn wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Corn lands a really nice looking cross but Lauzon seems unphased.

Lauzon fails to land the takedown.
Greg Corn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Lauzon.

Corn looking to score a takedown here. Lauzon is defending well but Corn drives through and ends up in Lauzon's guard.

Corn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Lauzon gets caught flat footed, as Corn shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Corn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lauzon is keeping the position for now.
Corn has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lauzon is proving hard to escape from.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Corn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg Corn dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Corn gets a double leg takedown into Lauzon's guard.
Corn pushing down on Lauzon's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Corn passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Lauzon!

Corn stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Corn lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Greg Corn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd cheers as Corn lands an impressive looking overhand right. Lauzon doesn't seem phased though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lauzon gets caught flat footed, as Corn shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Lauzon is working an open guard so Corn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lauzon avoids the head kick by Corn.
Greg Corn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Corn lets loose with a powerful body kick. Lauzon will feel that in the morning.

Corn moves into the clinch successfully.

Corn has Lauzon pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Corn pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Lauzon tumbling to the mat - Corn dives into Lauzon's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corn works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Corn wants to get back to his feet.
Lauzon trying to control here.
Still in half guard, Corn seems content to control.

Corn tries to stand but can't do so whilst Lauzon controls his leg.
Corn performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Sam Lauzon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

We're going to have a standup here because Greg Corn wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Corn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lauzon quickly recovers to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Corn gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
A solid body kick from Corn.

Corn gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Corn jumps guard.
Corn tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Corn is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lauzon can do to turn this around?
Lauzon won't allow Corn to get back to his feet.
Greg Corn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Corn pulls Lauzon in close to prevent any damage.
Corn wants to get back to his feet but Lauzon is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Corn is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Greg Corn.
Lauzon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Corn circles away.
Greg Corn is winning the standup battle so far.
Corn scores with a spinning back kick!

Lauzon gets caught napping as Corn dives in and scores a takedown. Lauzon manages to retain guard.
Corn has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lauzon is proving hard to escape from.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Corn tries to free his leg and advance position but Lauzon is retaining full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Greg Corn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Corn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
