PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Deloz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Deloz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John James!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deloz misses with a jab, cross combination.
James misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Deloz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. James looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Deloz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Deloz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Deloz tries to move to mount but James blocks the move with his legs.

Deloz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by James, who protects the arm well.

Deloz decides to stand up, so the ref orders James to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
James looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Deloz misses with a head kick.
Deloz scores with a jab to the head.

and Deloz counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
James drops down looking for an ankle pick but Deloz pulls his leg out and moves away.
Josh Deloz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John James.
James misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Deloz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Deloz stands up from James's guard - Deloz perhaps looking for a knockout.

and James counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James stalling away here and it's allowed Deloz to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Deloz wants to get back to his feet but James is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Deloz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. James defends it easily.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Deloz holds on and takes a little breather.
James wants to control from the top but Deloz keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Josh Deloz wasn't doing enough on the ground.
James shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Deloz counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Deloz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with James, pushing him back against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Deloz manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
James is pushing Deloz up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Deloz stalling.

Deloz breaks from the clinch.

and Deloz counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
James looks gassed!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
James tries for a takedown but Deloz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Deloz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching James on his heels. He'll look to pass James's guard now, I'm sure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Deloz's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Deloz pushes down on James's leg and manages to get into half guard.
James wants to stand back up but Deloz manages to pass into side control.

Deloz decides to stand up, so the ref orders James to his feet.

Deloz drives through with a takedown into guard.
James wants to stand and escape but Deloz is having none of it.
Deloz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Deloz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Deloz trying to control but James is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Deloz dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Deloz closes the distance and pushes James back into the cage.

Deloz gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
James being controlled here, momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Deloz won't allow James to get back to his feet.
Deloz wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Deloz prevents James from getting back to his feet.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Deloz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Josh Deloz.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Deloz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Deloz lands a hook that snaps the head of James backwards.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Deloz.

James changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Deloz fights it off and pushes away nicely.
James is breathing heavily.
Deloz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Deloz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Deloz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. James eats them both and turns towards Deloz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Deloz fails to land the takedown.

Deloz forces James back against the cage and clinches.

Deloz jumps into guard, dragging James to the mat.

James looking to sit in guard and control but Deloz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
James tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Deloz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for James!
This has been an exciting period of action!

James is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Deloz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

James tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Deloz controlling from mount.
James wants to hold on but Deloz pushes him away.
Deloz lands a heavy elbow.
Deloz is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Deloz looking for a guillotine from mount but James is having none of it.

Deloz has control of James's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and James regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Deloz controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James is in all sorts of trouble here.
James is bucking up trying to escape but Deloz cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Deloz has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! James is forced to tap!
