Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Power! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Cruz! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Power displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cruz. Power leaves Cruz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Cruz stuffs the takedown. Power displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cruz. Max Power has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Cruz. Power shoots in but Cruz avoids the takedown attempt easily. Power shoots for a takedown but Cruz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Power clinches up with Cruz and pushes him back against the cage. Cruz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Power fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Power changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cruz tries to avoid it but Power manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cruz to the ground. Cruz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz shoots in for a takedown but Power shows good takedown defense. Cruz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Power sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cruz somewhat. Power looks to land a combination but Cruz avoids it well. Cruz shoots in and drives through. Power sprawls well. Cruz with a lazy takedown attempt and Power counters with a two punch combo. Cruz shoots in for a double leg but Power sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Power looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Cruz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Cruz looks gassed! Cruz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Power throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Cruz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Power manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cruz has Power in his guard. Power trying to control but Cruz is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Power trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cruz has his foot on Power's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Power works his way back into a safe position though. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cruz can do anything to dispel that myth. Cruz working a defensive guard here.
Cruz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Power kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Power tries to free his leg and advance position but Cruz is retaining full guard. Cruz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Power doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Power manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Cruz wants to sweep but no luck. Power controls from within his opponent's guard. Power preventing the sweep. Cruz working for a triangle but Power defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz tries to strike from the bottom.
Power wants to control from the top but Cruz keeps moving. Power showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Cruz wants to improve his position but instead Power has moved into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cruz wants to improve his position but Power is controlling well.

A close round but Ricky Cruz will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Power dives in and grabs Cruz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cruz pushes down on Power's head and hops out. Cruz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Power pinned against the cage. Power gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Cruz shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Power manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Power is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Power has control of Cruz's left arm, preventing Cruz from doing any damage. Cruz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Power has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cruz has managed to get both his arms back between Power's legs - danger averted. Power has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cruz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz is pushing down on Power's leg trying to pass to half guard. Power is fighting to maintain full guard but Cruz has managed to sneak the leg through. Power won't allow Cruz to pass to mount. Cruz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Power is looking to control Cruz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Power avoid being mounted? Cruz wants to take a breather but Power is having none of it. Cruz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Power knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cruz connects with a nice short shot to Power's temple. Cruz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Power keeps working. Cruz trying to pass the guard but Power defending well. Cruz is looking to take a break and control but Power is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cruz stops Power from getting back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz throwing shots but Power is blocking nicely. Cruz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Power trying to get back to full guard but Cruz takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Power wants to control but Cruz is having none of it. Power can't escape the position.
Cruz lands a big shot there that rocks Power but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cruz cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Cruz pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Power takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Cruz dominating with strikes here. Cruz postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Power looks a forlorn figure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cruz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Cruz's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cruz lands a heavy elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Cruz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Power shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cruz sprawls well. Cruz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Power gets slowly back to his feet. Cruz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Power's waist but Power gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cruz off to one side. Cruz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Power but Power pushes him off and we're back to square one. Cruz fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Max Power has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Cruz. Power swats away the attempt to clinch by Cruz. Power stuns Cruz with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Cruz fails to land the takedown. Cruz misses with a takedown attempt - Power sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Cruz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Power scores with a takedown into Cruz's guard. Power trying to control the position from guard on top but Cruz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cruz is looking to sweep but instead, Power has passed into half guard.
Cruz tries to roll over but Power keeps him under control. Power stands up from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Power shoots in for a double leg but Cruz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Power throws a front kick that sends Cruz stumbling back into the cage. Power shoots for a takedown but Cruz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Cruz shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Power defends it nicely. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cruz. Power works Cruz's body with a nice hook. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Power gets caught napping as Cruz dives in and scores a takedown. Power manages to retain guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Power keeping full guard, as Cruz tries to pass. Power trying to keep a closed guard but Cruz is proving a slippery customer.
Cruz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Cruz trying to control but Power is working from the bottom. Cruz advances position into side control! Cruz lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Power down.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz working away. Power gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Cruz is in the full mount, landing strikes. Power defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cruz. Cruz thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Power tries to hold on but Cruz postures up.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Ricky Cruz. I've got Cruz winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
