Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Arturo Gatti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mac Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arturo Gatti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mac Hansen!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Eddie Farnsworth and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gatti will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hansen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gatti sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hansen somewhat.
Gatti misses with a wild combination.
Nice sprawl there from Gatti as Hansen shoots in.

Hansen feints and as Gatti raises his hands in defense, Hansen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hansen makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gatti controls Hansen momentarily but Hansen frees himself.
Hansen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hansen missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Gatti keeping full guard, as Hansen tries to pass.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gatti is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hansen is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hansen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hansen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Gatti is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hansen is controlling him.

Hansen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hansen won't allow Gatti to get back to his feet.
Gatti not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hansen wants to pass the guard but Gatti is keeping the position.

Hansen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Hansen landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Hansen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gatti!
Hansen lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Gatti is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gatti takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Oh Gatti is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hansen lands a big elbow - Gatti is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Gatti is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Mac Hansen!
Our winner, Mac Hansen, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
