PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Desmond Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oisin O Conghaile (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). O Conghaile is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Deer's Cry by Angelina. Oisin O Conghaile will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Desmond Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oisin O Conghaile!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter misses with a leg kick
and O Conghaile counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Carter takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
A nice inside leg kick there by Carter. That's going to slow O Conghaile down.
Carter blocks a head kick by O Conghaile.
O Conghaile blocks a low kick nicely.
Carter motions for O Conghaile to come forward. Carter throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Carter looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
O Conghaile thuds his shin into the meat of Carter's side.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
O Conghaile lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
O Conghaile looks to land a body kick but Carter moved away.
Carter takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Desmond Carter has been cut.

Carter feints and as O Conghaile raises his hands in defense, Carter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Carter wants to control from the top but O Conghaile keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
O Conghaile wants to sweep here but Carter controlling him for the moment.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carter tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
O Conghaile moves out of range of the strikes.
Carter thows a body shot but no joy.
Oisin O Conghaile is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

O Conghaile lands a big head kick that sends Carter tumbling to the mat! O Conghaile takes a step backwards and waves Carter back to his feet - he wants the finish!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carter instigates a clinch.
O Conghaile has had enough of the clinch but Carter keeps him there for the moment.
O Conghaile wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Carter has him pressed against the cage.

Carter turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Carter manages to end up in side control.
Carter is staying tight to O Conghaile's torso, preventing him from escaping.
O Conghaile tries to buck Carter off but Carter is having none of it.
Carter trying to control the position but O Conghaile is working away.
O Conghaile is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carter is trying to get an arm triangle but O Conghaile is defending well.
Carter is trying to ground and pound but O Conghaile uses the momentary lack of control by Carter to regain half guard.

Carter throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Carter is working for a submission of some sort.

Carter is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Carter is looking to take a break and control but O Conghaile is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Desmond Carter.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Carter dives in and grabs O Conghaile's left leg, looking for a takedown. O Conghaile pushes down on Carter's head and hops out.

Carter forces O Conghaile back against the cage and clinches.
Carter is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Carter throws an elbow but it's blocked.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


O Conghaile lands with a thumping leg kick.
Carter throws a sloppy head kick and O Conghaile moves out of range easily.
Carter fails with an attempt to clinch.
Carter avoids a kick to the body.

Carter closes the distance and clinches.
O Conghaile blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Carter tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
O Conghaile is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Carter keeps control of O Conghaile as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

O Conghaile is looking to work some ground and pound but Carter has wrist control.
O Conghaile wanted to stand there but Carter had control of the position.
Carter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

O Conghaile got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, O Conghaile has managed to get both his arms back between Carter's legs - danger averted.

Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Carter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. O Conghaile doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. O Conghaile manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
O Conghaile wants to get up but he can't break Carter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Carter is looking for a triangle but O Conghaile pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

I would just about give that final round to Oisin O Conghaile.
