Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bryan Baker!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raul Ewing!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Baker. Those never looked like landing.
Baker misses with a wild combination.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Ewing. Baker shrugs it off though.
Baker lands a nice shot to the body.
Ewing misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Baker!
Baker misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Ewing counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Baker is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ewing throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Baker dives in and grabs Ewing's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ewing pushes down on Baker's head and hops out.
Ewing avoids the body shot from Baker.
Baker swats away the attempt to clinch by Ewing.
Ewing moves into the clinch successfully.
Baker goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Ewing goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Baker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Baker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ewing's waist but Ewing gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baker off to one side.
Ewing ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Baker moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Baker misses with a few strikes there.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Ewing. Baker shrugs it off though.
Baker is breathing heavily.
Baker throws a lazy right hand but Ewing sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ewing shoots in and drives through. Baker sprawls well.
Ewing dips to his left and cracks Baker with an uppercut!
Ewing scores with a head kick. Baker tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Baker swinging wildly here.
Baker misses with a few strikes there.
Ewing lands with a thumping leg kick.
Ewing connects with a solid leg kick.
Ewing connects with a body shot that sends Baker's belly button to the back.
Ewing lands a left and a right that send Baker crashing to the mat, dazed. Ewing thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Baker is rocked!
It looks like Bryan Baker has been cut.
Bryan Baker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ewing gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Oh Baker is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ewing pulls guard.
Ewing seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Ewing pushes Baker off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Ewing closes the distance and pushes Baker back into the cage.
Ewing unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Ewing has Baker pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Baker is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Ewing - that's hurt Baker badly! Oh, another knee lands and Baker is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Baker doesn't seem to be complaining.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Raul Ewing! Raul Ewing retains his heavyweight title!
After the big win, Raul Ewing made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors BioPharm Nutrition and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
