Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Lyle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Markus Justice! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lyle avoids the body shot from Justice.
Justice thuds his right hand into Lyle's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Justice changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Lyle takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Lyle moves out of range of the strikes. A big left from Justice misses. Justice lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Lyle gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Justice. Justice throws a right hand that Lyle ducks under and follows up with a left that Lyle also avoids with ease. A head kick by Justice misses and Lyle counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Lyle misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lyle takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Lyle ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Justice falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Lyle to counter with a crisp jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Justice swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Lyle counters with a nice body kick. Lyle slips a jab from Justice. Justice swings for the body but Lyle moves out of range.
Justice misses with a takedown attempt and Lyle counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Justice thinking. Justice looks gassed! Justice fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Lyle throws a head kick that Justice semi-blocks.
It looks like Markus Justice has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Justice has his takedown stuffed and Lyle finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Jon Lyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Markus Justice. A big head kick from Lyle and Justice is sent sprawling to the canvas! Lyle working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Justice's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lyle is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Lyle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lyle won't allow Justice to sweep him here. Lyle controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Lyle stopping the sweep attempt from Justice. Lyle drops back looking for a leg! Justice is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Justice manages to kick Lyle off! Lyle jumps back into Justice's guard. Justice had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lyle defends it easily. Lyle scores with a decent looking elbow strike. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lyle pushes down on Justice's leg and manages to get into half guard. Justice is in trouble now - Lyle has advanced to mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lyle looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Lyle is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Justice can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That has opened up Markus Justice's cut even more. Lyle connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The cut above Markus Justice's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Lyle working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Justice turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Lyle off and cradles Justice's limp body as Lyle celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Jon Lyle! A victorious Jon Lyle thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
