The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conner just misses with a punch to the body.
Conner slips a jab and a cross from Matthews.
Conner on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
It looks like James Conner has been cut.
Conner throws a body punch but Matthews moves out of range.
Matthews takes one to the chin there.

Matthews moves away from the strike by Conner.
Conner forces Matthews back against the cage and clinches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Conner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Conner feints and as Matthews raises his hands in defense, Conner changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Matthews is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Conner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. James Conner wasn't active enough on the ground.

Matthews looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Conner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Matthews lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Conner has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Conner and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Matthews takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Conner bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Matthews's head.

Conner fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Matthews looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Conner lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Matthews at a distance.
Matthews is breathing heavily.
Conner lands a nice shot that snaps Matthews's head back.

Conner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Conner scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Matthews to see if he's OK.

It looks like Conner might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
