The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Staal there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Rini fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Staal manages to avoid it.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rini crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Staal - the referee stops the clock and Rini gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Staal. Rini manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Staal fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rini has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Rini is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Staal lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Rini throws a lazy right hand but Staal sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rini digs a good body shot into Staal's ribs.

Staal will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Rini up against the cage.

Rini looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rini blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Staal lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Rini.

and Staal makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Rini is breathing heavily.
Rini takes a kick to the side of the head.

Staal tries to land a front kick but Rini steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A slapping leg kick lands for Staal.
Staal throws a sloppy head kick and Rini moves out of range easily.

Rini throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
