Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Burns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Furious Styles! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burns keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Burns will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Burns misses with a low kick. Styles connects with a looping right hand.
It looks like Carl Burns has been cut. Styles walks into a left hand. Burns misses with a body kick. Burns takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Burns throws a nice inside leg kick. Burns comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Burns keeps Styles at a distance using the push kick. Styles takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Styles misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Burns.
Styles rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Burns counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Burns manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Styles on his heels. He'll look to pass Styles's guard now, I'm sure. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Burns slips nicely into half guard. Burns is looking to advance position but Styles won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burns throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Styles avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Burns. Styles tries to kick Burns off but Burns keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Styles trying to hold on to Burns's head to control him but Burns postures up.
Burns seems to be looking for submissions.
Burns is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Styles defends it well. Burns looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burns seems to be working for a kimura but Styles defends the submission attempt. Burns stops Styles from getting back to his feet.
Styles is looking to improve his position.
Burns is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Styles blocking the ground and pound attempt from Burns. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Burns seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Styles is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
